The Beehive House was built in 1854
and served as the official residence of Brigham Young when he was
President of the LDS Church and Governor of the Utah Territory from
1854-1877. The home has now been restored and furnished to reflect
living conditions of that period. Visitors can step back in time
during a free 30 minute tour of the house.
The Beehive House offers various
beautifully decorated rooms including the play room, the kitchen, the
family store, the fairy castle, Brigham Young's room/office, and the
sitting room where family members would get together to sing and play
various musical instruments. A wooden beehive sits atop the house
as a symbol of industry, thus the name of the house.
The Beehive House is located at the
corner of State Street and South Temple, just east of Temple
Square. Hours are Monday
through Saturday 9:30 A.M. to 4:30 P.M., Sunday 10:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M.
and Holidays 10:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M.
