The Museum of Church History and Art
located on 45 North West Temple just west of Temple
Square. The museum contains art and artifacts that tell the story
of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints from its humble beginnings
in upstate New York to the hardships of the Mormon pioneers
crossing the plains and up to its present time as a worldwide church
with a membership of 10 million.
The
museum offers various displays, art galleries, tours, videos,
photographs and many significant artifacts related to church events and
history. Visitors can see a real covered wagon, like those used by
the pioneers who settled the Salt Lake Valley, climb a ship bunk like
those in which immigrants from Europe traveled on, see an original 1830
copy of the Book of Mormon and see art pieces from around the
World.
Located
between the Museum of Church History and The Family
History Library is the Deuel Cabin which
was built in 1847 by one of the first Mormon families to arrive in the
Salt Lake Valley.
The museum is
a great place for kids, it offers many interactive displays and
activities for kids to enjoy such as puppet shows, films, and costumed
actors. The Museum also offers a small store
where visitors can purchase postcards, books, music, videos and other
small gifts. The
museum is open Monday trough Friday from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm and
Saturday, Sunday and most holidays from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm. Museum
